CEDAR’s PCI level-one certification retained

March 2017 Atlanta, GA. CEDAR Document Technologies (CEDAR), a leading provider of hosted direct-to-consumer (D2C) servicing and payment solutions, announced it has retained its annual PCI Level 1 certification.

PCI Level 1 certification is required by the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) of all companies that process, store or transmit credit card information. It exists to help organizations ensure the safe handling of cardholder information.

“This is an annual process that CEDAR has to go through in order to be compliant with our customers’ requirements as a third-party supplier,” said Eric Bray, Chief Information Officer for CEDAR. It also is a requirement in order to process payment cards.

During the process, a certified auditor, Dara Security for this audit, was able to choose what they wanted to view specifically, including company access logs, passwords, employee permissions and more. CEDAR had to provide evidence that it was compliant with all PCI requirements and had necessary controls in place. Level-one certification has the highest requirements in terms of integrity and security compliance for payment processing. CEDAR has been PCI Level 1 certified since 2010.

CEDAR can choose the level of compliance it maintains, including some less-stringent levels, but some customers, especially in the banking, insurance and finance industries, require CEDAR to have Level 1 certification before doing business. “For some customers, we wouldn’t even be able to be a supplier to them if we weren’t Level 1 certified,” said Bray. “Those are the types of customers that we want.”

The certification also appeals to other CEDAR customers and potential customers as a sales tool. “Knowing that their supplier is PCI Level 1 compliant gives … [customers] an extra feeling of comfort because they know the complex and difficult audits that we have to pass. Other clients see it as proving that CEDAR is committed to security.”

“For some customers, we wouldn’t even be able to be a supplier to them if we weren’t Level 1 certified. Those are the types of customers that we want.”
