Database Administrator

Managed Services Provider seeks a Database Administrator to manage database services at the company headquarters as part of the Service Operations division.  The DBA will directly support revenue critical professional services, customer deployment, and software delivery teams.  This includes supporting DB service improvement projects, database services management, SQL support, and other tasks related to DB systems or supported applications.  

Candidates must have database administration experience in a commercial environment. 


Responsibilities
  • Database management & support (MySQL & Oracle) for professional service teams, customer deployments, and software delivery teams;
  • Implements and enforces security for all of the Oracle/MySQL Databases;
  • Participates in a formal development lifecycle and release control process;
  • DB service improvement project support;
  • Requires individual to carry a pager or a cell phone with on-call responsibilities;
  • Backup and recovery of servers, data, and services;
  • Analyze, coordinate and/or assists with resolution of service related issues;
  • Participates in implementation/upgrade planning, including scheduling and development of associated implementation processes;
  • Support issue resolution and systems maintenance during non-business hours as needed
  • Setup/enhance services monitoring using various monitoring systems;

Skills
  • 4+ years experience with database operations and maintenance
  • Ability to work with a cross-functional team (development, systems/network engineers, OPS, QA, etc.)
  • Ability to analyze complex data and draw conclusions on system performance, trends, and issues
  • Ability to coordinate multiple tasks simultaneously according to management priorities
  • Desire and ability to learn new technologies/practices
  • Ability to work under pressure within aggressive schedules
  • Solid understanding of systems change management
  • Proactive in the identification and resolution of database issues
  • Strong commitment to systems & services under their direct control
  • Experience with database operations on a Unix/Linux platform
  • Experience with Oracle10g Grid Control for database management
  • Experience with Oracle Tuning, Diagnostic, and Change Management packs
  • Demonstrated ability to automate routine DBA tasks with Shell scripting, PERL, or other scripting solution
  • Understanding and experience with direct attached & SAN-based database storage
  • Experience with capacity planning practices
  • Experience with data lifecycle management
  • Implement and support Oracle physical and logical standby databases

Preferred Skills
  • Experience managing production Oracle database systems with High Availability requirements (Oracle Data Guard {switchover/failover} or RAC) on unix/linux platforms
  • Oracle ASM
  • Experience managing MySQL database systems
  • Experience with MySQL replication & backup processes
  • LDAP services management (OpenLDAP or Novell eDirectory)

Education
  • Bachelor of Science in Computer Science or equivalent
